Heavy Rain and Bioshock 2 pushed to 2010

Two heavy hitters skip the crowded holiday release window. Take Two has confirmed that they have delayed the release of Bioshock 2 to its 2010 fiscal year. Shacknews reports that Bioshock 2 was originally planned to be released in November this year, which also happens to be inside Take Two’s 2010 fiscal year. With that said, Take Two CEO Ben Feder mentioned that they are planning to release Bioshock 2 in the first half of 2010 along side Mafia 2, Red Dead Redemption, and Max Payne 3.
In other release news, Heavy Rain has been delayed to avoid being overlooked in this “overcrowded” holiday season. ”Most publishers today realise that it’s not ideal to release a new IP or a new genre just before Christmas,” says Quantic Dreams co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. ”It’s a very crowded place to be, and certain games need more space to live their life.” And if there’s one thing that Mirror’s Edge and Dead Space taught us about new IPs and the holiday season, it’s that exact quote. I whole heartedly agree with Guillaume de Fondaumiere (i’m not going to lie…i don’t know how to say that name) about Heavy Rain’s delay, but i am not sure if Bioshock 2’s delay was to avoid inundation or to give proper polish. However, i am sure that my wallet will be a whole lot heavier and happier going into the holiday season.
