Doom 3 BFG Edition Announced
Credit: [ The Verge ]
“Doom 3 BFG Edition will be the final say in Doom content to date. The package will include Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3, Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil and a brand-new, “lost” mission for Doom 3 with seven new levels, a new boss and two-to-three hours of content.”
“Willits says the id team scoured message boards and fan forums looking for complaints they could address this time around. The flashlight. The too-dark levels. The difficulty. All were issues id addressed based on fan feedback, in the hope that this version of Doom 3 would be that much more engaging.”
New Lord of the Rings Title

“Guardians of Middle-earth will also feature tie-ins with Peter Jackson’s upcoming film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. According to publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, “several” new playable characters will release alongside the film, which is due out in December. It was not mentioned if the characters will arrive day-and-date with the film or if they will cost extra, and as of press time, Warner Bros. had not responded to GameSpot’s request for comment. “
Naughty Dog Co – Creator Joins THQ
Credit: [ Wallstreet Journal ]
THQ Inc. (THQI) named industry veteran Jason Rubin as its new president, a move that came as the maker of videogames and accessories continues its restructuring efforts.
The appointment is effective immediately.
Rubin co-founded videogame-development company Naughty Dog, which was acquired in 2001 by Sony Corp.’s (SNE, 6758.TO) Sony Computer Entertainment America unit. At Naughty Dog, Rubin served as co-creator and game director of games such as “Crash Bandicoot” and “Jak and Daxter.” Rubin also co-founded Flektor, a media-mashup tool, which was acquired in 2007 by Fox Interactive Media, a division of News Corp. (NWS, NWSA). News Corp also owns Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires.
“Jason’s proven track record in the industry speaks for itself, and he is one of the brightest minds in the business,” said THQ Chairman and Chief Executive Brian Farrell.
THQ said it also appointed Jason Kay, who co-founded Flektor with Rubin, as its new chief strategy officer.
THQ also said Danny Bilson, its executive vice president for core games, is leaving the company to pursue other interests.
The company is looking to realign its focus from a maker of licensed games for broad audiences to a developer of “core” games for multiple platforms. Earlier this month, THQ reported a wider loss in its fiscal fourth quarter as it continues to try to turn itself around following a disastrous drop-off in sales during the holiday shopping season.
Xbox 360 Reaches 67 Million Sales Worldwide

““Since 2005—when we launched Xbox 360—we have sold 67 million consoles and have generated more than $56 billion at retail, and we’re still going strong in our seventh year,” wrote Yusuf Mehdi, Chief Marketing Officer, Interactive Entertainment Division, Microsoft on the company’s official blog.”
“With 47 percent share of the current-generation console market, we are hitting our stride largely as a result of the success of Kinect for Xbox 360 (19 million sold ) and the flood of new entertainment options through Xbox LIVE (40 million members).”
Wii U to Have Best Looking Version of Aliens: Colonial Marines
Credit: [ Kotaku ]
“Gearbox’s Brian Burleson, senior producer on Aliens: Colonial Marines, won’t discuss directly. But, he said to Eurogamer, the Wii U will get the best-looking version of the game because it has “more modern tech.”
“Just trust me on that one,” he added, when Eurogamer pressed for more details on how the game would look better.”
Rumor: Quantic Dream to Reveal Project at E3
Credit: [ Ripten ]
“Rumors have surfaced from Computer and Video Games that Quantic Dream’s latest project may be one of two major game announcements at Sony’s E3 press conference on Monday, June 4. The founder of the studio, David Cage, may reportedly make an appearance to debut whatever the studio has been working on since its previous release’s success. Details are scarce, and the developer may even be tackling two projects at the moment, though it is unknown what will be shown. Still, this is great news for fans of Quantic and Sony, as the company might finally be able to debut a relative surprise at its conference.”
