Bioshock 2 This weeks pick really comes as a no brainer, we at GamingRing, loved the unforgettable atmosphere that was created with the original BioShock that was inspired by the SystemShock series of games. Unfortunately for God of War fans, Dante’s Inferno just did not cut it as a game, however we had two great titles for everyone to pickup the runner up for Pick of the Week is Star Ocean Last Hope International. Star Ocean came out last year for the Xbox 360 last year and had fairly good reviews, but had a few save point issues and had some awkward narrative elements. While Star Ocean the Last Hope is a good game, it cannot top what BioShock 2 does to follow up on the original. While what is experienced is not as mysterious and full of surprises, like the original, it does iterate on the game play of the first one and it really focuses on a good story driven experience, that sucks you in and keeps you on the edge of your seat for every cinematic that comes after fire and plasmid fights. This time around you play as a Big Daddy opposed to a normal man, so instead of wielding a wrench, you have a drill that is attached to your suit. The single player portion takes place 10 years after the events of BioShock and you have no memory off who or what you are. So in that regard it does mix things up. The game also features a fairly solid multiplayer portion, that was developed by Digital Extremes who has the pedigree of Unreal games in the past. They brought to the table a game that has a leveling up system much like the Call of Duty games, the online features death match and team based match types over Xbox Live or Playstation Network. The multiplayer portion of BioShock 2 takes place 1 year before the events of the original Bioshock and is cinematic in execution and you play as a splicer fighting in Rapture’s Civil War. The player is being sponsored by Plasmid manufacturer, Sinclair Solutions, to test out their weapons, Plasmids, and Tonics in a consumer reward program. As you progress through the multiplayer experience your character will unlock new weapons and Plasmids, provided by Sinclair, as well as progress the story of the Rapture Civil War. So be sure to check out BioShock 2, now available in stores now. Be sure to check out the Podcast, the forums and the site for more coverage of the great games of February.
