EA Sports announces new fighters for EA Sports MMA
EA Sports recently held a live chat with the EA Sports MMA dev team and here are the fighter announcements joing the games fighter roster. If you would like to see the full chat you can do so by visiting here
Cung Le
Le, a 5’10” Vietnamese American kickboxer, currently holds a mixed martial arts career record of 6-0. He made his martial arts debut in 2006 and defeated long time MMA veteran Frank Shamrock in 2008 to win the Strikeforce Middleweight title. Le will co-star in the live-action Tekken film and has also been in various other movies, including Pandorum and Fighting.
Scott Smith
Smith, hailing from Reno, Nevada, is a former UFC fighter and has also appeared on season four of The Ultimate Fighter. He enters the December 19 Strikeforce fight against Cung Le with a career record of 16-6. Smith’s last victory was in April 2009 where he knocked out Benji Radach in the third round.
Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza
“Jacare” is a Brazilian mixed martial artist, submission grappler and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. Souza has a career record of 10-2 and has fought in the Japanese MMA promotion, Dream where he has faced other EA SPORTS MMA fighters including Jason “Mayhem” Miller and Gegard Mousasi.
Robbie Lawler
Lawler was a former EliteXC Middleweight Champion and has a professional mixed martial arts record of 16-5. This 5’9” MMA fighter has competed in a variety of fight promotions, including UFC, IFC, EliteXC, PRIDE and Strikeforce.
Gilbert Melendez
Melendez is a 5’9”, 155 pound, Mexican-American professional MMA fighter out of Santa Ana, CA. He currently holds the Strikeforce Interim Lightweight belt and successfully defended the title back in August against Mitsuhiro Ishida. He has a record of 16-2 and is scheduled to face Josh Thomson to unify the Strikeforce Lightweight championship on December 19th.
Matt Lindland
Lindland, a former Olympic wrestler (2000 Summer Olympics), is set to fight “Jacare” at Strikeforce’s event on December 19. Lindland has competed for most of his MMA career in the UFC, but has also fought in other promotions including the IFL and Afflicition. He currently holds a career record of 21-6 and outside the ring, he is a politician, having won the Oregon Republican Party’s nomination for the Oregon House of Representatives in 2008.
Josh Thomson
Thomson comes into the December 19th Strikeforce fight with an 8-match winning streak and won the Lightweight Championship when he defeated Gilbert Melendez back in June of 2008. He has a career record of 16-2 and is currently on an 8-match winning streak.
