Star Wars 1313 Announced

Credit: [ Entertainment Weekly ]

LucasArts announced an intriguing new entry in their Star Wars mythos this morning. Star Wars 1313 is a videogame set on Level 1313, a subterranean section of Coruscant that is the home of the criminal underworld and is the polar opposite of the glittering skyscrapers on the surface. (So, Space New Jersey.) In a press release, LucasArts said that gamers will play as “a lethal bounty hunter” — which does not quite confirm our own Star Wars expert Christian Blauvelt’s theory that this is a Boba Fett game, but it doesn’t disprove that theory, either.

The press release is vague about specific gameplay, mentioning “agile cover-based combat, epic platforming, and seamless playable cinematic game play,” which could describe any videogame. But the really intriguing thing here is that LucasArts explicitly calls this a “new mature Star Wars world.” “Mature” is the operative word there.

The franchise took a somewhat dar-ish turn with the Force Unleashed sub-saga, but this seems like a genuine dive into a more adult take on the series. In my headbrain, I’m picturing something close in spirit to the Cam Kennedy Boba Fett comics or A.C. Crispin’s Han Solo trilogy.

Not much information is available about the game yet, but expect revelations soon — Star Wars 1313 will almost certainly be making an appearance at E3.

New Gears of War Title Details

Epic Games has confirmed Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly is involved with the next Gears of War.

Announced yesterday, the game will receive its full unveil during Microsoft’s E3 press conference.

The tease also confirmed that series creator Epic Games will be developing the game, but the firm’s president Mike Capps has now said People Can Fly, which is largely owned by the former, is involved in the Xbox 360 exclusive.

People Can Fly, who has had experience in the Gears of War IP with their PC port of the original, has previously been speculated to be working on a prequel trilogy for the franchise.

Hitman HD Collection

Square Enix might be looking to cash in on the recent Hitman buzz by releasing a high-definition collection of three previous entries in the series, if a new retailer product listing is to be believed.

Italian retailer 16Gamesis claiming the Hitman Collection will feature spruced-up versions of Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Hitman 3: Contracts and Hitman: Blood Money.

According to the retailer, the package will be available from 15 October, which is close to a month before Hitman: Absolution’s release on November 20.

The latest Hitman: Absolution trailer featured a group of assassins, disguised as nuns, out to ambush Agent 47.

Depictions of the bald-headed assassin brutally killing the ladies stirred up a controversy, yesterday PSM3 writer Sarah Ditum argued the video clearly came from a predominantly male creative team second-guessing what a largely male audience wants.

Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 Announcement

The three minute debut trailer is unfortunately all prerendered footage so don’t expect any game play here. This trailer is all about setting the stage for what’s been going on in the life of Gabriel Belmont, the protagonist from the first game. It’s rather impressive and shows that the game is going to keep its massive scale intact from the first game.

It’s worth noting that the trailer contains a fair amount of spoilers from the first game. If you have yet to play Lords of Shadow, I suggest that you refrain from watching the trailer. Let’s just say that the game is probably not going to go as far into the future as the first game hinted at, but Gabriel is still afflicted with his curse.

Tomb Raider Details

Credit: [ MTV Multiplayer ]

Now, word is out that Tomb Raider will be coming to the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 5th as Crystal Dynamics and new publisher Square Enix begin Lara again. The story will take place in the present and give us a 21-year-old version of the globe-trotting explorer who’s just getting her feet wet with international adventure—literally, after the ship crashes carrying her to an excavation site.

The new trailer shows Lara doing what she’ll one day do best, exploring an island in the Devil’s Triangle and attempting to survive the traps and killers inhabiting it. “Gritty” is maybe not the right word for it, but the trailer shows a game that looks like it’s going to be way more visceral, with Lara set to take a lot more knocks than she did in past games.

Youtube Coming to Vita

Sony has announced that a YouTube app will come to the PS Vita next month. It’ll feature standard features like comments and favorites, and is set to be released by the end of June. It follows the recent release of Skype, Facebook, and other non-gaming apps for Sony’s latest handheld, and should be useful for anyone interested in watching mobile video on the device — in our review, we noted that the Vita’s browser doesn’t even support HTML5, let alone Flash. There aren’t many details or any screenshots yet, but chances are we’ll get to see the app shown off at E3 next week.

Lego Lord of the Rings

New Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, 3DS, Vita, and PC game arriving later this year, will be based on motion picture trilogy featuring Frodo, Aragorn, Gandalf, and rest of Fellowship.

J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendary Lord of the Rings fantasy tome will come to life in a new way this fall. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today formally announced Lego Lord of the Rings for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS, 3DS, PlayStation Vita, and PC.

Deadspace 3 Confirmed

Credit: [ Shogun Gamer ]

EA may have just had some of their thunder stolen as the first screens of Dead Space 3 have leaked online.  News on Dead Space 3 has picked up in recent months with rumors pointing to the action being set on an icy planet and a co-op component being thrown into the mix.  Well for better or worse these screens confirm quite a few elements that will be in Dead Space 3 but the question is whether or not they’re actually make the game better or simply be detrimental to the experience.

EA hasn’t revealed any details on Dead Space 3 just yet as that will likely occur on Monday when the company holds their E3 2012 conference.  While EA may be staying as secretive as the Church of Unitologoy, the screens we have today do indeed confirm that Isaac will be blasting Necromorphs on an icy planet outpost and that he won’t be going at the mass mutant killing solo.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Release Date and Details

Fans of the Metal Gear franchise will be pleased to hear that Konami has announced Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance for 2013. The game will be released on both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, and if the rumors are to be believed, it looks like a version for the PlayStation Vita could also be in the works! Described as “first and foremost an action game,” players will be playing as Raiden, a cybernetic warrior that was last seen in Metal Gear Solid 2. The game will also be set nine years after Metal Gear Solid 4 and according to Kojima Studios writer Etsu Tamari, “he is still suffering from the wounds of the civil war he fought. He’s become a hero with a dark past, one constantly haunted by this guilt.”

The game will focus on directional slashing and according to its director, Kenji Sato, players will have access to a variety of different weapons along with the ability to slash certain background objects and use them as makeshift weapons as well. Air combos and Ninja Dash will be used as a means to traverse the game’s world and based on the trailer, well it’s safe to say that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be pretty gory! So if you’d like to check out what the game has to offer, check out the game’s trailer in the video above.
